Vintage Report : 2000
Margaret River - 7/10
The wettest calendar year on record and a cool summer were features of this season. Cyclonic activity and rain created some major concerns in March and it was very much a vineyard management year with the best wines made off low cropping well-sited vineyards. Downy mildew – newly discovered in Margaret River – caused little damage. Some relatively good wines were made despite the difficult conditions. Some very fine Chardonnays.
Great Southern - 6/10
A human-factor vintage illustrating that good viticultural practice in a challenging growing season can actually allow a good-quality crop. A drier than usual winter was followed by a wetter than usual summer. Rains during vintage did not help. The vineyards were under considerable disease pressure. A moderate year for Shiraz.
