Vasse Felix, Margaret River
Established in 1967 by Dr Tom Cullity, Vasse Felix was the first winery to be built in Margaret River and is internationally recognised for producing varietally distinct wines of the highest calibre.
2007 marks the fortieth anniversary of Vasse Felix, the twentieth under Holmes à Court ownership and the thirty fifth consecutive Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vintage.
The ancient soils of Margaret River and cooling summer sea breezes from the Southern and Indian Oceans provide the Vasse Felix vineyards with ideal viticultural conditions to craft consistent, elegant and complex wines with pronounced varietal character and aroma.
The Vasse Felix wines are handled by Chief Winemaker Virginia Willcock who joined the team in 2006 overseeing all aspects of viticulture and wine production.
“My approach has always been that wines should be created with a boutique winemaking philosophy. I believe that irrespective of volume, this approach delivers superior wine - wine you can be fanatical about.”
Virginia's sixteen Margaret River vintages and vast international winemaking experience, coupled with a determination to craft wines of the highest calibre sets Vasse Felix in very good stead to release varietally distinct and internationally exciting wines for many years to come.
Situated in the sub-region of Willyabrup, Vasse Felix is certainly one of the most highly visited wine destinations in the country. A unique underground cellar, a spectacular restaurant overlooking the original 1967 plantings and an exquisite art gallery makes Vasse Felix one of the great drawcards of the Margaret River Region.
